It has a slightly different exterior that’s not as aggressive but has a similar interior design. It also gets new monotube shock absorbers that are paired to new front coil springs with retuned rear springs and bushings that Toyota claims provide a better steering response.

While this is all well and good, there are those that wish Toyota could have improved the Hilux GR Sport’s engine performance. Luckily, Toyota has heard your wishes and has previewed a more powerful version of the popular pick-up truck.

Set to launch in May, Toyota recently showed the first images (and details) of a Hilux GR Sport that gets a boost in power. Unlike the regular GR Sport version that already comes with 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque, the more powerful version gets a 10% boost in power and torque.

The result is an engine that now generates 221 PS and 550 Nm of torque. You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now., the Hilux GR Sport now puts out 8 PS more, along with an additional 50 Nm of pulling power.

When will the more powerful Hilux GR Sport be in Southeast Asia? Unfortunately, this particular Hilux will first be launched in South Africa this coming May. There’s also no word whether the bump in power will be made available to other global markets.

Assuming Toyota does make it available in other countries in the future, should Toyota Motor Philippines bring in this more powerful version of the Hilux GR Sport? And will it be enough to actually outpace the Ranger Raptor’s bi-turbo diesel engine?
