Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III are reconsidering their plans to run for Senate after President Rodrigo Duterte decided not to seek the vice presidential post in Eleksyon 2022, PDP-Laban president and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Monday.

“We are meeting today, about their [Tugade and Bello] status whether to run or not. Nu’ng nag-usap kami, we had a long meeting. When he (Duterte) decided not to run, emotions are running (high), nu’ng ginusto ng Pangulo na umayaw,” Cusi said in an ANC interview.

“Now, they are assessing whether they will also withdraw or not file their candidacy kasi gusto nila kung tatakbo sila kasama nila si Pangulo (because they want to run and campaign with the President),” he added.

On the other hand, Cusi said presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, PACC chairman Greco Belgica, and Public Works Secretary Mark Villar will still push through with their senatorial bids.

Cusi said they have more than 12 aspirants being eyed for their senatorial slate in Eleksyon 2022, including candidates from other parties.

He said they will still discuss their final line-up but he cannot divulge the names of their guest candidates as they have yet to get clearance from the concerned individuals.
