FOUR senatorial hopefuls filed their certificates of candidacy (CoCs) on Sunday.

Officially joining the fray were former senator Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada, Samira Gutoc, Najar "Jinggoy Adang" Salih and Luz "Lala Ganda" Aquino.

Estrada is a candidate of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, the party of his father, former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada.

He was first elected senator in 2004 and served for two terms until 2016.

Estrada said that in his 12 years as senator, he had authored around 600 bills.

A day earlier, his half-brother, Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito, also filed his CoC for senator.

"There are 12 seats that are being fought for and I hope both of us will win. I think both of us deserve to win," Estrada said, referring to Ejercito.

The two lost their bid for a Senate seat in 2019.

Asked to comment on his pending plunder case in connection to the pork barrel scam, Estrada said that he "leaves the decision to the court."

Gutoc, who ran under the Liberal Party ticket in 2019, joined the Aksyon Demokratiko party of presidential hopeful Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso.

"Many of the youth leaders during quarantine reached out to me, ang daming online. Bilang crisis worker ang aking pinanggalingan from the Marawi Siege [in] 2017, lalo pang naigtingan, lalo pang lumakas ang loob dahil sa pandemya. I learned that the key lessons are legislation, oversight, transparency and accountability (Many youth leaders reached out to me online amidst the quarantine. Having been a crisis worker during the Marawi Siege in 2017, I am more eager and emboldened by the pandemic. I have learned that we need legislation, oversight, transparency and accountability)," she said.

Independent candidate Tiburcio Marcos was the only presidential aspirant to file a CoC on Sunday.

The Commission on Elections will continue to accept CoCs for the 2022 elections until October 8.
