That means our country is the worst place to be in amid the pandemic of the 53 states included in the list.

The ranking is a monthly assessment of how COVID-19 is being handled in different countries all around the world with factors such as virus containment, the quality of healthcare, vaccination coverage, overall mortality, and progress toward restarting travel and easing border curbs.

"Southeast Asian economies continue to populate the Ranking’s bottom rungs in September, with Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines the last five. While the region’s outbreak may have peaked, their export-reliant economies are still struggling from the hit," Bloomberg said in the report.

The report adds that while Asia Pacific was once the best at virus containment, several countries in the area have faltered. Bloomberg observed that strict measures haven't been effective, and these countries should focus on vaccinations to curb the virus.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte said that he is currently considering making vaccinations mandatory under the government's police power. A health official meanwhile said early in September that booster shots were off the table until the country vaccinates 50 percent of its target population.
