OCTA Research fellow Dr. Ranjit Rye on Monday said that the work being done by the independent group amid the COVID-19 pandemic is purely voluntary.
During a congressional inquiry, Valenzuela Representative Wes Gatchalian asked OCTA Research if the group is being funded by a foreign entity or any private companies.
"The OCTA Research Group is a private organization... if you're talking about COVID research po, it's not funded by any entity, both private and public, this is voluntary," Rye said.
OCTA Research is mainly for public service, according to Rye.
He also explained that the funds being utilized by the independent group was "self-generated."
"For the COVID research, it's for free po. For the service po, we have a fund, self-generated, to do at least quarterly service po, 'yun ho ay contribution na po namin sa bayan ho 'yan," Rye said.
The OCTA Research is an independent group that gives projections and warnings about the COVID-19 pandemic. It often gives suggestions on the quarantine classifications that will be implemented by the national government amid the pandemic.
