All I can recommend is use software or microsoft accounts. backup server is good for at least 7 years & less for ssd so sometime you may expect some data loss.
I have known a company use cloud storage to sync his main work server computer folder to his home computer (Automatically upload all data from the folder).
Cloud Storage - Folder sync data from system is saved there and is uploaded automatically.
Microsoft Accounts - Auto sync feature
they're not that expensive..
servers are good but can be stolen or damaged overtime too many variables to consider.
Arjien I am also thinking since they are on a tight budget i might use a unbranded desktop with windows 10 pro and just make a simple file server.. do you have pc /server specs that you can recommend for a 16-20 users network ?
