Globe Telecom on Wednesday officially launches its internal mobile number portability (MNP) capability, which is in line with the telco's mission to enhance the overall customer experience. The MNP covers all Postpaid to Prepaid, Prepaid to Postpaid, and Prepaid to Prepaid customer movements within Globe and TM.

When a customer changes subscription type, the MNP feature allows them to keep their same mobile number. Many who have wanted to move from Prepaid to Postpaid (and vice versa) will finally be able to do so while retaining their current phone number.

Subscribers who are not under a subscription lock-in period, have no financial obligations, or have unpaid balances can use the service. Customers may apply for porting by visiting a Globe store or logging into their GlobeOne account. Customers with Globe myBusiness can use the GlobeOne app to see whether their phone number qualifies for MNP.

If they are eligible, they can contact their account manager or myBusiness chat support. Clients of Globe Business should reach out to their dedicated account managers.

Globe chief commercial officer Issa Guevarra-Cabreira said, "Enabling our customers with the freedom to move across subscription types while allowing them to retain their original mobile number creates a new level of experience."

The telco is pressing forward with this initiative in compliance with Republic Act 11202, or the Mobile Number Portability Act, to enable its customers to retain their mobile numbers even if they move from Globe to TM and vice versa, regardless of their current subscriptions.

To allow other network providers to do the same, the MNP's full implementation date initially scheduled for January 2021 was moved to September 30, 2021, due to technical delays in testing and governance caused by the pandemic.
