The calculation came from customers’ speed testing on their LTE devices using Ookla’s popular SpeedTest mobile app and website.

In a statement, Ookla CEO Douglas Suttles said that the award recognizes its “commitment to delivering fast speeds to their customers across the Philippines.”

Previously, Smart won Ookla’s Speedtest award for having the best speeds for Q3 and Q4 of 2018. Smart, together with its parent company PLDT, was also the leader in the second half of 2020, with the former hailed as the fastest mobile network and the latter taking the fastest fixed network title.

Smart managed to pull a three-peat in Ookla awards after it got a speed score of 24.99 in the Q3 and Q4 of 2020, beating Globe’s score of 15.30. That’s 20.08Mbps (vs. Globe’s 15.30Mbps) in terms of average download speeds and 7.42Mbps (vs. Globe’s 4.11Mbps) upload speeds.

Yep, bumilis si Smart sa area namin. In 2019 always less than 10mbps lang ata yung speed na nakukuha ko. Now in 2021 always, and I mean ALWAYS, above 20mbps siya. And on top of that, magpapatayo pa daw sila ng new tower dito since di daw sila satisfied sa current 4G speeds, and mag upgrade rin sila into 5G. Si Globe naman, nag improve (kind of). From 0.4mbps to 2mbps during peak hours. I mean, they tried.
