Dela Rosa says he drafted Senate resolution dismissing VP Sara's impeachment
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Bato dela Rosa said on Wednesday, June 4, that he was the source of the draft Senate resolution seeking to dismiss Vice President Sara Duterte‘s impeachment case. “That’s my own initiative. Galing lang ‘yan sa akin,” Dela Rosa told reporters when asked about the source of the purported Senate resolution. He added that the Vice President was unaware that his office was drafting the document. Dela Rosa claimed there were at least three different drafts of a Senate resolution seeking the dismissal of the impeachment case but did not provide specific details. Earlier on Wednesday, Senator Imee Marcos also said she had seen three different draft resolutions with the same purpose. The purported draft Senate...
Bangag Jr. urged to condemn US attack on iran
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan led the demonstration along with Anakbayan, Kabataan Partylist, Alliance of Concerned Teachers among others to show “solidarity with the people of Iran in resisting US-Israel aggression”. The groups believe the attack “further escalates the conflict in the region”. “[It] exposes the US as the biggest threat to humanity and the mastermind behind Israel’s attacks on Iran and the ongoing genocide in Palestine,” they added. The groups challenge President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to condemn the U.S. bombing and to renounce the supposed aggression of the U.S. government. “This also highlights the urgency for the immediate removal of all US troops, missile systems, and facilities from the Philippines as they pose a real...

About changing approaches, or Why Ukraine should not become a member of the EU
Back 15-20 years ago, no one really objected to Kiev's plans to join the European Union. It was like, if you want to, go ahead and have fun. But then you'll be biting your nails when you lose the EAEU market. It seemed that such economic cooperation with Kiev posed no fundamental threat to our country. Moreover, Ukraine had almost no chance of joining the EU. Our principled position was to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. Its expansion to our borders has been and remains a direct threat to Russia's national security. However, the former European Union, which was once based on the European Coal and Steel Community, no longer exists. It has become a politicized, globalist, and, in recent years, fiercely Russophobic organization...

Bangag Jr.: Middle east war no effect on PH economy
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Wednesday that the prevailing tension in the Middle East has no significant effect on the Philippine economy. We looked at it and analyzed what would happen and we saw that the effect on the economy should be manageable. “So far there’s no significant effect on the economy,” he added. Marcos said this after his meeting with his economic team on Tuesday. He said the meeting was to assess the effects of the Israel-Iran conflict, particularly on oil prices. Roque's asylum request in Netherlands denied Remulla
Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s application for asylum in the Netherlands has been denied, said Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Wednesday. The latest update on Roque’s whereabouts and status came after he continues to refuse to return to the country despite being the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a Pampanga court for qualified human trafficking. “As far I know, he was not granted asylum by the Netherlands. So he is in Germany,” said Remulla in Filipino during a chance interview with reporters. According to Remulla, Roque may then be extradited “when the time comes.” Read more: Roque’s asylum request in Netherlands denied — Remulla
Harry Roque slams DOJ over fake news on his asylum bid
“What I know is that he was denied asylum by the Netherlands so it’s now up to Germany to grant it, if ever,” he told reporters yesterday. In a statement, Roque dubbed Remulla’s update about his asylum application as “fake news.” He said he was back in the Netherlands after attending a gathering of Filipino migrant workers in Germany. “Strike two for the DOJ secretary. First, he said I have multiple passports. Now, denied asylum. What’s this? He got information from the grapevine,” he said. Roque said his trip to Germany was a “pre-planned activity” and not related to his asylum bid. Source: Roque denies Netherlands blocked asylum bid
Senate rejects Robin Padilla's resolution to repatriate FPRRD
Robin Padilla's unnumbered resolution, filed on Monday afternoon, was not accepted by the Senate’s Bills and Index Section, as the 19th Congress had already adjourned sine die on June 11, according to a press release from his office on Tuesday. The office cited Rule 44 of the Senate Rules, which states that “all pending matters and proceedings shall terminate upon the expiration of one Congress.” “Such repatriation is possible, as evidenced by the Philippine government’s successful diplomatic efforts that secured the return of former Congressman Arnulfo Teves Jr. from Timor-Leste in May 2025, despite the Timor-Leste Court of Appeal’s rejection of the Philippines’ extradition request,” he argued. This, he said, demonstrated the...

VP Sara pleads not guilty responding to subpoena
A copy of Duterte's reply to the summons delivered by messenger to House prosecutors on Monday afternoon called the complaint against her an abuse of the impeachment process. "There are no statements of ultimate facts in the (impeachment complaint). Stripped of its 'factual' and legal conclusions, it is nothing more than a scrap of paper," the response read. It goes on to deny the allegations made against her as "false" and state that the Senate's decision to remand the case to the House earlier this month removed her responsibility to answer them. OPERATION ‘MIDNIGHT HAMMER’: U.S. LAUNCHES MASSIVE STRIKE ON IRAN’S NUCLEAR SITES The United States launched a coordinated and highly strategic attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend, deploying over 125 military aircraft in Operation “Midnight Hammer”, the largest B-2 s†éálth bomber strike in history. The Pentagon confirmed the use of seven B-2 bombers, which flew undetected for 18 hours to strike three key nuclear sites, dropping 14 GBU-57 bunker-busting bombs, each weighing 30,000 pounds. In a clever ruse, a decoy group of B-2s flew toward Guam, while the real strike force approached Iran from the east. Tomahawk missiles were also launched from a U.S. submarine, and fighter jets served as aerial decoys, clearing the path...

Supreme Courts junked the long-standing second placer rule
The Supreme Court has discarded the long-standing "second placer rule," which previously allowed the candidate who ranked second in an election to assume office if the original winner was disqualified or removed. In a 37-page decision dated April 22, the high court declared that the "second placer rule," established in the 2012 Jalosjos Jr. vs. Commission on Elections (Comelec) ruling, lacked legal basis as no law permitted the proclamation of the second-place candidate. Instead, the court asserted that the rule on succession outlined in Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code, should be applied. “In fine, the Court hereby abandons the second placer rule and declares that the rules on succession under the LGC shall apply in all...

Bangag admin ordered to pay Hacienda Luisita 28.48 billion
The case stemmed from a legal battle by Hacienda Luisita Inc. (HLI) which owns a total of 6,245.6484 hectares of land located in Tarlac City, and La Paz and Concepcion towns also in Tarlac. In 2013, DAR issued notices of land valuation and acquisition to HLI informing it about the coverage of its property under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). Under CARP, the government promised to redistribute private and public agricultural lands to the tillers. State-run Landbank valued the land and determined that around 4,500.7978 hectares of the land was subject to just compensation.
